JAEGER
Ethereal Power Metal
Jaeger begins in 2018 as an online collaboration between guitarist, Sam Williams and vocalist Mikel Hutchings. A two man recording project until 2020 when Williams moved to Atlanta to recruit a full lineup.
The current and complete lineup was born in the throes of the COVID pandemic, which allowed the 5 piece to focus solely on the composition of the debut album. Playing alongside bands such as Theocracy, Paladin, Harakari for the Sky, Ghost Bath, Lutharo, Deteriorot and more, Jaeger has built a formidable following in the local scene and beyond with their own brand of power metal crossed with melodeath and thrash.
————————————
9 songs of riff based power metal, complete with ethereal vocals, melancholy and fantastical lyrics, intricate progressive influenced drumming and a healthy dose of blistering guitar solos. The Wild Hunt was mixed and mastered by Christoffer Borg (Anthrax, Amaranthe, Danko Jones, Evergrey, Cyhra, Kee Marcello, Art Nation and more).
Members
Mikel Hutchings
Vocals
Mikel is the lead vocalist and principal lyricist of Jaeger known for his soaring tenor that is both ferociously powerful, yet hauntingly vulnerable. With a career spanning over a decade, Mikel has helped form the local power metal scene, blending classic metal aesthetics with modern intensity. His commanding vocal presence stems from influences such as Hansi Kursch, Rob Halford, and Jorn Lande while his dark, cinematic, and emotional lyrical themes were shaped by metal elites such as Blind Guardian, Judas Priest, and Galneryus.
When he began his career in the late 2000’s, he performed with various local artists around Atlanta before making his mark as the frontman of the power metal act Thundershield which led him to sharing the stage with both regional and national acts alike. During his time with Thundershield they released the EP Enchanting the Steel, followed by a debut full-length album Thundershield in 2017. Ever evolving and pursuing his passion, he is also a member of the black metal project Crypticon and synthwave act Vampire City.
Sam Williams
Lead Guitar
Sam Williams has been recording and playing live for over 15 years with multiple bands and projects. He is one of the two lead guitarists in Jaeger, but also the chief songwriter, composer and producer of the band. Sam credits iconic guitar players such as Yngwie Malmsteen, Michael Romeo, and Jeff Loomis to his blisteringly fast yet melodic approach to guitar. While bands such as Blind Guardian, Children of Bodom and Galneryus were instrumental in shaping his approach to songwriting and artistic direction.
Playing a crucial role in pushing the Atlanta power metal scene forward, over the years Sam has garnered the attention of other established acts leading to his other current roles as the lead guitarist for blackened death metal band Malefic (Terminus Hate City), thrash metal band Sadistic Ritual (Prosthetic Records), and is a recurring session guitarist for the progressive death metal band Cemetery Filth (Rotted Life Records). In his years of playing he mentions sharing the stage with such notable acts as Deicide, Crypta, Theocracy, Ghost Bath, Harakiri for the Sky and more as career highlights.
Barron Lackey
Lead Guitar
Barron, one of Jaeger’s two lead guitarists, is a versatile musician who began his musical journey over 20 years ago when his father put a guitar in his hands and taught him his first few basic chords. Fast forward to today, and his meticulous attention to detail and expressive approach to playing has evolved through years of experience traversing various styles in an effort to broaden his command of the guitar. He is heavily influenced by classic rock, metal, and Japanese music, while citing guitarists such as Slash, Marty Friedman, and Takayoshi Ohmura as key inspirations in developing his signature sound.
Barron has had the privilege of touring and performing over 100 shows across 37 U.S. states and 97 cities as the current lead guitarist for one of the top ABBA tributes in the world, MANIA. In addition, he has performed hundreds of shows locally in various other rock, metal, pop, folk, classical and gospel projects. When not performing or recording, he has been a professional private-guitar instructor for 10 years mentoring all ages and skill levels and finding himself specializing in advanced techniques, theory, and composition.
Sam Bryans
Lead Bass
Sam Bryans is a multi-instrumentalist that brings his own aggressive and unique style as Jaeger’s bass player. Surprisingly enough he spent his formative years as a lead vocalist fronting local progressive metal band Paradigm. It was during this time that he also found himself developing his skills on guitar being inspired by bands such as Pantera, Helloween, and Dimmu Borgir.
Sam later found himself founding power metal band ThunderShield as their lead guitarist allowing him to push and evolve his songwriting skills culminating in the release of two albums: the LP ThunderShield and the EP Enchanting the Steel. Having found a passion for composing new music, Sam later has gone on to release various singles from solo ventures such as EDM project Koalems The Atomizer, 5 albums in a satirical parody band called Father Deacon, and is currently the studio bassist and guitarist in power metal band PyroFire.
